Celebrating Female Entrepreneurship

On April 28 and 29, women's entrepreneurship was centre stage at the Meredith Center in Chelsea as the first Spring Fair held under the aegis of Option Femmes Entrepreneurs took place. La Fab member and potter Laura Sheppard was among the female entrepreneurs invited to present their range of products and services. She took the opportunity to display her beautify pottery inspired by her province of origin.

Although, Laura currently lives in Aylmer, Quebec, she is still close to her Newfoundland roots. “Growing up there instilled in me a love of nature, rugged landscapes, ocean, and fresh ocean air. (…) It is this feeling that I try to convey in my tableware, which is intended for everyday use.  I use simple design such as lines, circles and flowers in repetition to evoke a meditative quality.”

Laura has been a potter since finishing art school in 1998. Since then she has worked in two studios as the studio technician, and have taught several ongoing adult and children classes. She is also an artist with multiple interests. As much as time allows, she spins and dyes yarn, and knits. Her buttons, yarn bowls and sheep-ware evolved from her love for all things fibre.

Laura is also the contact person for La Fab’s beautiful boutique, where her creations are showcased.  Should you wish to submit artworks or do volunteer work at the boutique, you can reach par email.
